There are two basic types of eyes for paintball guns: Breakbeam and Bouncebeam. Each have thier own unique
advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of this page, however, is to describe exactly what they are.
Breakbeam eye have two components: The Emitter and The Receiver. The Emitter is simply a device that can
produce a relatively focused beam of light. Like a laser. The Receiver can detect when this beam is pointed
at it. The Emitter and Receiver are placed on opposite sides of the marker in a configuration that shoots the
beam of light through the barrel. When there is NOT a paintball in the chamber, the Receiver detects the beam and
sends a signal to the control board not to fire. But when a paintball enters the barrel, it "breaks" the beam
of light and makes the Receiver tell the control board that it can fire.
A Bouncebeam eye works in a similar way. It has an Emitter and a Receiver. But unlike the Breakbeam eye,
the Bouncebeam eye has both Emitter and Receiver in the same housing. So when the Bouncebeam eye is installed, it
shoots a beam of light into the chamber. If there is NOT a painball present, the Receiver gets no signal and tell the
control board not to fire. But when a paintball enters the chamber, the beam of light reflects or "bounces" off
the paintball and into the Receiver. Allowing the Receiver to tell the control board that it can fire.
